I have taught for over 20 years in Detroit with a Bachelors in Elementary Education with a major in science from Wayne State and a Master’s Degree in Reading and Language from Oakland University. Furthermore, I have additional training in Reading Recovery and taught that for 2 1/2 years. I love the small size and community feeling of Carleton Elementary.
I have been teaching in Detroit for over 20 years and currently serve as the Mathematics Instructional Specialist at Carleton. I also direct our Soccer for Success after school program. Before teaching my background includes serving in the Peace Corps and working at Princeton University. I have my Masters in Education from the University of Michigan. I have been fortunate to live in various places in the United States and around the world and I am passionate about opening up a world of opportunities to our children in Detroit.
My name is Noni Makun. I am from Detroit, Michigan. I attended Detroit Public Schools. I went to U of M-Ann Arbor for math and switched to teaching at E.M.U. where I received my B.S. degree. I earned my Masters in teaching from Marygrove College. My hobbies are dance, choreography, cheering, socializing and business.
Mrs. Malick has taught at Carleton since 1995 so she feels like she is part of the neighborhood. She loves when her previous students come back to Carleton to visit to tell how well they are doing in their lives. “Carleton is a wonderful place to teach and I have loved my years of teaching the children of this community.”
Hello! I’m Ms. Sherlda Milton and I am excited about starting my twenty-sixth year of teaching with DPSCD and my seventeenth year teaching in special education. I have been here at Carleton for two years. Carleton is a wonderful learning environment for students and a caring environment for both students and teachers! My professional goal for this year is to create a more positive learning environment by celebrating teacher and student successes as often as possible. I have a Masters plus 30 in Special Education and I’m one class away for my Masters in English.
I am Ms. Nenninger, one of the first grade teachers at Carleton, I am a product of DPS. I attended Carleton Elementary, Fisher Middle, and Renaissance High schools. I graduated from Eastern Michigan University and moved to metro Atlanta where I taught in DeKalb County Schools for 6 years I returned to Detroit and I have been here ever since. I have been teaching in Detroit for 20 years. My teaching career has been great! I have had the opportunity to teach all grades from kindergarten to sixth. I worked as a Science teacher for grades three through five. I was a Library Media Specialist. Last year I was a Reading Recovery teacher, working intensely with several first graders. Currently, I am the first grade ELA/reading teacher.
Kimberly Perkins is the 5th grade teacher, and has been teaching at Carleton for 5 years and 19 years with the district. In addition, Ms. Perkins is a National Certified Teacher with a Master’s degree in Teaching Mathematics as well as Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. She loves teaching 5th grade.
I am a native Detroiter who loves my city. I earned my Bachelor’s of Arts in Early Childhood Education at Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina and received my Masters Degree in Education from Marygrove College here in Detroit. My hobbies include cooking, traveling, scrapbooking, and spending time with my family. I am extremely family oriented and have positive relationships with my family and friends and will be extending the love out to my future students!
